Regional Freight Planning
Providing efficient, cost-effective and safe movement of freight in and through the region.
The CAMPO region is both a hub of high-technology industry, and a critical area for pass-through freight traffic, serving regional and international destinations. Though San Antonio, Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston produce and distribute larger volumes of goods, the Austin area's growing service and manufacturing sectors, coupled with commuting and other transportations needs place strong demands on the limited transportation network. CAMPO's freight planning efforts seek to promote the efficient movement of goods to support a healthy economy, while minimizing adverse impacts to our environment.
Freight Transportation Study
CAMPO, in partnership with the Texas Department of Transportation and the Greater
Austin Chamber of Commerce, initiated a comprehensive study of the region's
freight conditions and opportunities. The first phase looked at existing and forecasted
freight flows on the road, rail and air transportation networks. A Steering Committee
of private and public stakeholders was developed to gain valuable insights from several
of the region's freight transportation leaders, and an on-line survey of the freight
industry extended the study's outreach to our region's freight transportation providers.
